Down in the tube station

It has just occurred to me that there is a small inconsistency in the lyrics to ‘Down in the tube station at midnight’ by The Jam.
When he is pleading with his attackers he says that his wife is getting ready for him to come home with the takeaway curry - at midnight? That’s a very late evening meal. And would the takeaways even be open at that time?
It wouldn’t sound quite the same if it were ‘Down in the tube station at half past eight’ tough.
It’s still an excellent song.
