Multiplying decimals

To multiply decimals
  1. count up the number of decimal places in both numbers - add them up in each number
  2. multiply the numbers as though they didn't have any decimals. You can do it in your head, if the numbers are easy, or using your usual long multiplication technique.
  3. Put the same number of decimal places back in the answer.

For example, to multiply 0.3 x 0.06

There is one decimal place in the first number, and two in the second so 3 in all.

Then multiply the numbers without decimals, 3 x 6 = 18.

Now put the 3 decimal places back, to get 0.018.
