Multiplying decimals
To multiply decimals- count up the number of decimal places in both numbers - add them up in each number
- multiply the numbers as though they didn't have any decimals. You can do it in your head, if the numbers are easy, or using your usual long multiplication technique.
- Put the same number of decimal places back in the answer.
For example, to multiply 0.3 x 0.06
There is one decimal place in the first number, and two in the second so 3 in all.
Then multiply the numbers without decimals, 3 x 6 = 18.
Now put the 3 decimal places back, to get 0.018.
