Solving a quadratic by factorisation
This is not a general method, but works if the quadratic expression can be factorised.
So, first put your quadratic into standard form, with 0 for the right hand side. Now try to factorise the left hand side using the techniques here.
The solution follows almost immediate by observing that if you have an expression formed from a number of factors, and the expression = 0, then at least one of these factors must be 0.
