Salter’s duck

This was invented by Stephen Salter in the 70’s as a response to the oil crisis. I even remember hearing about it on Tomorrow’s World when I was a child. However the project was dropped when oil prices fell again.
Professor Salter died recently (23rd February 2024). In an obituary in the Guardian it was said that an evaluation of the device which was carried out by the nuclear industry in Britain judged it uneconomic after a misplaced decimal point caused them to overstate the costs by a factor of 10.
