Increasing numbers oof businesses are adopting a tagline which starts with ‘Simply…’. I am seeing it more and more.
- Simply food
- Simply different
Does it mean anything at all? Is it even good?
I suppose the origin of this meme could be Tina Turner: Simply the best.At least that does mean something.
Does ‘Simply food’ make you feel good about it? School dinners are simply food. So are prison dinners. So are humanitarian aid deliveries from Oxfam. How does that appeal?
I saw ‘simply different’ on an estate agent’s board. So that means they are different from other estate agents. Do they sell pizza perhaps?
The truth is that ‘simply …’ is what marketing executives reach for when they can’t think of anything else.
