The author writes, in an afterword to the first book, that humanity seems to be very optimistic about the nature of alien life. For example, Voyager and Pioneer space probes carry information on how to find Earth. He suggests that caution should be in order. Perhaps most life out there is hostile. Perhaps we ought to be more cautious about announcing our presence.
